It looks like my car has driven its last mile. I heard back from Young's Garage today. The fuel lines and pump are totally rotted, and the gas tank is rusty, though intact. It would cost a fortune to fix, and there was other stuff ("the exhaust is practically falling off"). It wouldn't pass inspection next month anyway.

Damn it.

The stereo in there is at least worth something. Maybe that will cover the cost of towing it to the junkyard :/

Would you pay $2600 for a 94 crown victoria?

Heh my friends mom had a crown vic. That thing has a trunk large enough to be called excessive. It was a nice car but then again your talking to the guy that drives a green buick.

Seems a bit expensive. My 1995 LeBaron with fewer miles (75k) and a well known maintenance history went for only $2400, and that was around three years ago.

Heh, the Veronica Mars car! Is yours the convertible?

I haven't yet started watching any of my Veronica Mars recordings in Myth (saving them for rerun season, same for Mythbusters), so I'll have to watch one sometime this weekend to see what she drives. :)

Yes, it's a convertible. In 1995, the coupe was not available, and I'm not sure about the LeBaron sedan (which was basically the same as the Dodge Spirit/Plymouth Acclaim, my previous car was a '93 Spirit). Even if they were available, the LeBaron sedans were pretty rare in '95. I think that instead of having two totally different LeBarons that year, Chrysler may simply have offered an upper-end Spirit. I know my '93 Spirit ES had quite a few more luxury features than my '95 LeBaron LX does, except for the engine. 105HP 4-cylinder engines coupled to a three-speed automatic SUCK.

Police special? As in, actually driven by police? Don't buy that unless you can look at the transmission. Cops are so rude to their transmission they have a team in their garage just overhauling their transmissions constantly.

Also, buying a 4.6L during a gas crisis? Can it even run E10?

Oh, gah. I didn't even think of that.

I'm more worried about reliability than its horrible gas mileage. I doubt I was getting much better on the Prelude *before* it started leaking fuel XD

you can get those old police cars at city auctions for $500-$1000 a lot of times.
