From nuero, ZZTer Chase Bramlage has been charged with murdering his girlfriend. I've never played any of his games, but it's.. still crazy weird.

* * *

I haven't had much to be happy about in the past month, friendless, jobless, useless and depressed. For the first time, I was absolutely not looking forward to Christmas. But damned if it didn't just all melt away with the snow the night before. Christmas eve, day, and day 2 were all great. I am so lucky to have the family I do.

That was... uncharacteristically feelingsy. Anyway, things:

I got the preamp upgrade for my Klipsch v2-400. Having a standby button is great, almost as great as having knobs that don't make static every time you touch them. (Though if I knew then how easy it was to take apart, I probably could have done a better job cleaning them :P)

I also got a ridiculous electric shaver; buried in its list of 1000 features is that it doesn't destroy my face even when I use it for five minutes straight. It has a freaking LCD screen.

F.E.A.R. is trying the best it can to run on parabel. The first level seemed more optimized than the rest. At 800x600, I was getting FPS mostly in the 20s. For the rest of the game, it's been more in the upper 10s D: (Eight by six bugs me a lot less than any other low resolution because it's exactly half of my native res.) I have the $$$ to build a much better performing machine... several times over, but I'm too annoyingly responsible to do it without any certainty of when I'm getting more $$$ to replace those ones.

More parabellum's speed is The Movies. Built for the lowest common denominator, I get roughly a kajillion FPS at 1600x1200. The tycoon part of the game is pretty fun, and I can already tell that the movie making part is going to be very flexible, maybe even useful. And full of ideas to steal for my pie in the sky rapid prototyping GCS :P

Quake 4 and Viewtiful Joe haven't been opened yet. Neither has the new George R. R. Martin. Just a few more pages on this Takeshi Kovacs book, and I can finally start it!

I don't have a sleep schedule anymore.

I have no idea who that is.

F.E.A.R. wouldn't run on anything but the lowest setting on my computer. The game is just an incredible resource hog.

I have no idea who this is.

But yeah, I know! I started up Quake 4 last night, and was relieved to see normal framerates. Still at eight by six, but at least I don't need that slow-mo feature because the framerate is already too low!

How /IS/ The Movies? I saw it around, it seems kind of interesting. Any games that you'd call it similar too? (Like Capitalism, etc?)

It's interesting. I haven't gotten very far in it. The game starts in the 20's, and I just started the the 40's. It seems like the two parts (movie making and studio running) are hardly connected. First I was having fun getting my stars drunk and having the paparazzi annoy them. Then I was having fun making a "script" with my 1930s props and costumes, but after putting in so much effort on a script, I don't want to play the studio running game. "JUST MAKE THE DAMN MOVIE, I DON'T CARE ABOUT PUTTING STATUES UP ON MY STUDIO LOT!"

It's not much like Capitalism. (Though you can actually sell your stars and scripts if you want to.) It has elements from the Sims (keeping your people happy by filling up their bars) and Tycoon games (construction, hiring and firing, upkeep)... and then there's the movie making part. This promises to be the most fun since you can do it completely free-form if you want. But it requires self-direction, I guess. You can completely skip it while you're playing the tycoon part by hiring script writers.
