I guess I have things to update about.
I finished Buffy
season 3. It keeps entertaining, so I keep watching. Though I'm not sure anything is going to top The Zeppo (spoilers)
from season 3. It's a completely Xander-centric episode, pushing all the other characters out to the periphery. And in the world of Buffy characters, I like Xander nearly as much as I like Willow! Nuff said.
Shows I'm continuing to watch include all the Sunday night animation on FOX. Mostly out of habit, but last week's Family Guy
was actually kinda good. House
has really been piling on the character development, to great effect. I viewed all of Extras
in two sittings. Watching Ricky Gervais relentlessly talk himself into a deep deep hole is one of television's finer pleasures. I really hope they can get him into one of the few Arrested Development
episodes they have left. Speaking of, the American The Office
is terribly funny. But it's on during House, so it gets recorded on my analog tuner. So it kinda gets second-class treatment because I really hate watching that noisy noisy analog cable. I've pretty much given up on Threshold
. Brent Spiner or no, it's still a very boring drama. Those guys should take a lesson from Battlestar Galactica
. Now Veronica Mars
, there's another good one. Those guys can write a mystery show. And they can also write in all those little technical details to keep my disbelief suspended. Unlike say, Threshold :P
I wrote a python prototype for a windows loadertune service described here
. Python has been good to me for win32 programming. It gives me plenty of wiggle room learning the whole windows way of thinking, but not in that "enough rope to hang yourself" kind of way doing it in C is.
I know this because my prototype ends up eating 7-8MB of my memory. And it's a service; that memory is gone forever. So, I've been rewriting the non-sound playing parts in C and I'm feeling the pain. Those functions start taking a lot more arguments when you have to worry about allocating memory and how many elements some array has...
