Arrrrgh, I've never had one piece of hardware cause me so much anguish. Not even th pcHDTV card. This is the second Seagate 300GB disk I've received and it will only work for some short amount of time and then die.
That's where I was on thursday when it arrived; fast forward to now, and I've now got it sitting in my windows machine which is booted into knoppix sharing its filesystem over the network so mythtv can write to it, in an effort to cause the same problems. What's killing me is that it passes the long and short SMART self-tests, and mythbackend has been recording for like 15 minutes now and it's still A-OK. We'll see how it's doing tomorrow I guess.
But I mean this is a HARD DISK, they are just supposed to work. Did I mention the perfectly normal clicking noise both of them have made when they are first accessed?? I'm pretty sure I did.
