I'm at home for the superbowl. clamps was very reluctant to start up, and I've only gotten it working now. However, I've added a PC speaker and it is now living inside my desk. It may be invisible, but it's not unhearable. Old hard drives are LOUD.

My W-2 was waiting for me when I got here, so I entered that into Free Web TurboTax. Take a look at that website even if you're not going to use it. Ignoring the utter heresy that is browser detection (I had to spoof my user-agent to Firefox/Windows), this is the best designed web application I've ever seen. It doesn't require initial registration, navigation is straightforward and doesn't "go away", help is always available on your current form and often hyperlinked next to specific fields. Somebody's job was to make this website USABLE, and that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Anyway, that was the first time I've done my own taxes. I'm pleased at how little physical paper I had to handle: my W-2 from work, and my old savings account statement. My new savings account at ING DIRECT is all web-based. I did not have to print any tax forms or send anything through the mail, and I won't have to receive my refund through the mail. ...and I won't have to send Pennsylvania my $1 through the mail :P

RE: Web Turbo Tax

Web-based Turbo Tax scares me... You never really know what's in the backend code....=/ At least if I use Turbo Tax locally on a comp without an Internet connection, I would feel somewhat safe about my personal info. That's why I always buy it every year which seems to be one of the only proprietary piece of software I ever use or pay for and I run it on my parent's Windows box... =)

Re: Web Turbo Tax

Heh. I'm less paranoid about this, since I've already accepted that all the data on my internet-connected and physically-unguarded computers are already compromised.

...or does that make me more paranoid?
