So I guess it goes without saying that I got the timing slightly wrong this afternoon, and ended up sleeping 2.5 hours instead of 1.5 hours, and missing my next classes.

I've been awake, and looking like a zombie (but feeling okay) for the rest of the day. I feel like I should be more tired, I guess. Made chicken vindaloo from that paste you can buy in a jar tonight.. life is pretty good after all :)

Started playing Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines today. There is a really good game in there. Lots of mythology (that I don't know anything about) and lots of dialog makes for a really immersive experience. Lots of ways to play the game based on your vampire type. Lots of optional side-quests. I was enjoying going around *detecting* things, like a vampire Sherlock Holmes. I really dig the computer use in the game, where you actually type things on a command line.

It's incredibly unpolished. It feels like they finished the levels, but never got around to making the engine work. The same stutter bug as in HL2 exists here (it uses the Source engine). But there are some parts of the game where the framerate just chunks down to 10fps; doesn't matter if it's 800x600 or 1600x1200. The physics simulation seems infantile compared to HL2; my character slips and slides around on wooden boards sitting on the ground. Oh, and I can't enable antialiasing, which bugs the hell out of me.

Of course, I can see right past all that stuff to the delicious gaming core in the middle. But I wouldn't sell anyone else on this until they get a patch out to fix all this stuff. Walking around these really busy cityscapes at 11fps is not too visually impressive.

Troika has an unfortunate history of making really good, but really damn buggy games. Arcanum and Return to Temple of Elemental Evil were both horribly buggy at launch. I guess they haven't learned :(
