My linux computer has been turned on 243 times. Its 17G OS disk has read 8.8TB and written 1.5TB in its lifetime. Its temperature is 25C.

smartctl is awesome. Though the real reason I'm using it is to confirm that my replacement WD disk is bad :(

A new version of DOSBox was released recently. It has now surpassed the venerable DOSEMU as my favorite DOS emulator. It's *almost* good enough to play Tyrian in second-highest detail. Except it crashes sometimes, and takes X with it. But I've been playing Commander Keen, Jill of the Jungle, Solar Winds, and Traffic Department 2192 and they're all nearly perfect. Also, I've been playing Abuse, but I have the SDL version of that. But yeah, if you still have your DOS games, try out DOSBox 0.62. It's pretty good.

I haven't heard anyone mention Solar Winds in a long time.

Oh yeah. It's.. incredibly rough around the edges, but I didn't notice in 1993. And there was some neat stuff in there, like changing the waveform of your weapons and shields

TD2192 had a very distinctive art style for the character portraits. It worked so well that even so many years after I first played it, just looking at Doctor Ramses here brought a lot of the Ramses-related storyline pouring back out of my memory.
