I wonder if I should buy a C64 MIDI interface. It'd be a lot less expensive than getting a sidstation. I'd have to fix my C64, though. Uh, and also try to find some music software or write my own. Hmmm...

Oooooooh, this looks awesome. And it comes with the source, too! Now I definitely have to fix my C64.

Just Mod It...

You should be able to Mod your C64 and get it to run as a MIDI instrument. The Serial port on it could be turned into a MIDI port with a crystal change or some fancy baud rate generator tweaking - and then all that has to be done is write a program to interface the MIDI port to the SID chip. Shouldn't take that long - just a few months of hacking to get it up. :-)

I could help with the hardware, but I'm 0% familiar with the C64 software wise.

Re: Just Mod It...

This file describes how to build a MIDI interface that plugs into the cartridge slot on the back of a C64, which sounds pretty useful. And this file describes a mod to get TWO sid chips in a C64. Mmm, I'll have to dig it out of the closet this weekend.
