Spore! I started playing Friday night, hell-bent on destroying my enemy's homeworld, and then it was Saturday morning. Few games are so engrossing and addictive. The beginning stages, cell and animal, are lots of fun; the middle stages, tribal and civilization, are empty shells of games. But the space stage is what makes it great. If it had characters instead of procedurally generated aliens, it could rival Star Control 2. But that's not what Spore is about. Making creatures, structures, and vehicles; and building a huge empire: massively appealing. The automatic downloading of your friends' creations is a nice touch. I've already run across one of wikle
's species (the Time Lord empire) and started building his entertainment structures (the BBC) on my colonies.
No Spore today... yet. Today was my nephew Joshua's first birthday. A few weeks ago he was taking some tentative steps, but now he's tearing around the house! It was great to see him today, and I also met a handful of Ashlyn's family that I haven't seen yet.
