I just got around to watching this year's Knight Rider
remake. I wasn't looking forward to this. I recognize the original was a pretty goofy show, but when I was a kid I thought KITT was the coolest thing around.
So let me just get into my problem with the new Knight Industries Three Thousand (KI3T). It's no more advanced than the model from the 1980s! KI3T's nanoelectromechanical armor does the same thing as KI2T's passive chemical armor. Embedded video monitors were unusual in the '80s, but KI3T's LCD display is the same thing you get in any modern-day luxury car, only bigger. KI3T has an internet connection and access to FBI backdoors, but KI2T always got the same information through other means. Technology has changed quite a bit in 25 years, but KITT can't do anything new.
There was also a side plot about some humans, but they were all boring except for the gay FBI agent who seems to be rich but wants to chase around criminals anyway. If NBC picks this up as a series, they are going to have to do something to make the humans more interesting, or make the series more car-centric. I'd rather be watching Drive
, if it wasn't crushed under the heel of some brainless FOX executive.
