I'm upgrading my laptop to Ubuntu 7.10, "Gutsy Gibbon". It's a 100% GUI operation, which was suggested to me by the update tool. Hot.

I can only hope that the next release is codenamed "Hungry Hippo".

Hungry Hippo's is a Live Trademark. So its pretty unlikely they will go for that one.

I'm thinking I might shop around again for a kvm switch and see about getting my test box loaded up with this latest ubuntu and left powered up on a regular basis.

Friend of mine installed it and posted about it on LJ. He didn't like it.

NEEEERRRRRRRD RAAAAAAAAAGE!
Fuck Ubuntu 7.10.

I had such great success with 5.10, 6.0, 6.10, and 7.04. They worked great on my desktop and on my laptop. It was beautiful.

And then I decided I'd try to upgrade to 7.10.

Not only did it totally break -EVERYTHING- on the laptop (it even installed the wrong fucking X11 driver during the upgrade!), but it barely even resembles Linux under the hood anymore! /etc/ is a complete and utter mess, networking is broken in ways I can't even comprehend, /var/ is completely fucked...

Christ. My laptop is practically a brick right now, because the 7.10 CD won't even boot up anymore to attempt a reinstall.

Damnit. Well, I guess I've been meaning to do a wipe and reinstall of the Windows side of things for a while now anyway. I'll have to see if I can track down an ISO of Ubuntu 7.04 again, do the wipe and reinstall of XP, then try another reinstall of Ubuntu. I can't bear the thought of switching to Fedora or Slack, but if this is the future of Ubuntu, then Canonical can go fuck itself.

I installed 7.10 on my server today. No problems thus far!
