I spent much of last night making 48x48 monochrome icons.

Web design is hurting me. Balancing the need to be semantically correct with the need to look good, and having this all work across Firefox, MSIE, Opera, Lynx, and Konqueror. Fixing something in one browser will break something else (or worse: the same thing!) in another one.

Plus, MSIE decided it didn't like the <?xml...?> line at the top of my XHTML... after I had already tested it in MSIE for the entire morning. I am baffled, but I just gave in and removed the line.

At least I should have a complete (if static) website up by the time that name2host gets around to transferring my domain.

ALSO, welcome my roomie scottapple to LiveJournal! Paid user and everything.

IE doesn't support XHTML. It just doesn't. The only way you should even try is if you write XHTML that conforms to all the guidelines in the spec about writing for backwards compatibility: basically, don't do anything that looks too much like XML, always use shorthand closing for EMPTY tags, and never use shorthand closing for non-EMPTY tags.

It really is a mess. I feel for you. I at least get the privilege of being paid to deal with it.

Ugh, that doesn't surprise me at all. And don't even get me started on dynamically rewriting the page just to get PNG transparency.
