Something about being at home inspires me not to make LJ posts. That something is me not accomplishing anything in the world of programming. Though last night I was thinking of using 3 or 4 rendering passes to accomplish high dynamic range in OpenGL (3 or 4 times 8 bit resolution of material properties, textures, and lights). I'm not sure about a good way to automatically make the viewer's "eyes" adjust to whatever 8 bit "band" you could see, though, since you have to find the min and max pixel in a couple of those passes. I'm reluctant to play with any of this because I haven't got OGRE linked to python yet. I haven't ever written a moderately complex graphics engine, but I'm already sick of rewriting the same functions just for simple ones. Anyway.
This Christmas had the most games given that I've ever seen. I usually get my brothers PC games. But they got each other and me games as well. Only this year, I have a PC and a Gamecube. Since Ben got an XBOX, there were those games, and Playstation games for Jon's PS2. It was a beautiful sight :)
If I were making LJ entries every day since Christmas, they would all say "spent most of today playing Windwaker." I can be fairly obsessive about two things in game: exploration and perfection. In Max Payne, I would have to find the coolest, most dramatic way of taking out every single room of bad guys. This is the perfection thing. Same with Ikaruga, obviously. Windwaker is killing me in terms of exploration. I need to see *everything* the designers put in. And every island seems to have parts which can't be accessed without an item you get later. Good thing I have a really long winter break :P
I also have Metroid Prime 2 and Time Splitters 2, which I've barely scratched, and Pirates! and Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War, which I haven't started. I'm kinda waiting on the PC games until I get a wireless keyboard and mouse. My windows machine is still plugged into the big screen TV, and I have to cannibalize the input of 2 other computers to make the cables reach from that PC back to the couch.
Last, there is the Ultrasone HFI-650
which are just way cool. If you ever get a chance, try these headphones :D Now, if you'll excuse me, that Gamecube is calling again...
