At the beginning of the Fall 2003 semester, when I had just moved into my new apartment, I cracked the front glass on my phone. It wasn't a big deal, since all the interesting stuff is displayed on the internal color LCD screen. The crack stayed like it was until June 2004. In the last few weeks, it's been growing and growing. So, I called up LG and ordered some new glass for it. Apparently, cracking the screen is a pretty common problem for these phones, and there's lots of info on the web about what to do.

The phone glass came this afternoon, so I got to work. Before:

After:

Once I got the old glass off, it was pretty easy. Now it's as good as new! :)

Good to know, though an Aeonn Fluux discussion board is the last place I'd expect to find that . . .

That site is actually all about the VX4400. Absolutely nothing to do with Aeon Flux ;)

Being reminded that we have the same phone fills me with a weird sort of kindred joy. Nice to know that I probably won't have much trouble fixing the front glass should it ever break!

Oh yeah... I forgot you were a fellow VX4400 user :)

Hopefully nothing else will break, because when I called LG, the only parts they seemed to have were the window glass and the tape... only ones they told me about anyway.

i have that exact phone.. it sucks.. half the time it randomly reboots right before an incoming txt msg arrives..

you can get free internet with them though if you play with the proxy settings..too bad internet sucks on a 2 inch screen.

I've heard of people having similar problems with the phone spontaneously rebooting, but it hasn't happened to me yet. You might want to see about getting the latest firmware on there.

Verizon seemed to catch on to the WAP thing, though. Google's WAP proxy is now blocked :( Currently, I'm using the demo WAP proxy from the browser company, which isn't great.

You can also use it as a modem connected to their 3G network! I didn't know about this until yesterday. I have used it as a modem using a regular connection, but it was really slow. Haven't tested it yet, but I expect it should be more usable.

Yeah, and then it took another half hour to type a livejournal post. More stuff can happen in those minutes, you know :P
