I destroyed the slackware partition on my laptop today while waiting for class. I was installing the jdk on it, and enabled DMA and 32bit I/O to speed thigs up. This didn't work very well, and everything broke. Which kinda sucks because I've had the laptop for a long time and those options have never hurt it before.
I'm going to start trying to recover stuff from it now. At the very worst, I'll have lost all the CS notes I took this semester. Not great, considering finals are this coming week, but the rest of my life's work remains on other machines.
In reality, this is probably a good thing anyway, as I can now put gentoo on there, making gentoo my standard distro across all my linux boxes. (except smith, which is a 486 laptop running debian that hasn't done anything ever in its life)
