Hahaha, I just did zoom code for spacegame, and it was like no work. OpenGL rules. It was basically, add some mousewheel code, multiply the mouse cursor position by the scalefactor, and add this line to the display code:

glScalef(ScaleFactor, ScaleFactor, 0.0);

It rocks so hard. Hehehe!@$%
