In perl, it's trivial to program an ftp session because there is a standard library of reusable code for that kind of thing. Try doing it in C, and you run into a brick wall. ftp is a (needlessly) complex protocol, something you do /not/ want to implement if you don't have to, but I can't for the life of me find a C library that does it. C really needs a CPAN-like thing.
