With some duct tape, I got the disk drive with the broken pin going again. So I'm trying to install windows on it. Both 2000 and XP setup do the same thing. They load all the drivers, get up to the "starting Windows" stage, and then the screen blanks and the install is unresponsive.

I can take out some of the PCI cards, I guess... nothing's ever easy.

update It was the GeForce! I replaced the GF4 with my trusty Matrox G200 PCI, and now I'm formatting NTFS. Go figure.

That's what you get for using a supervideocard. :P

Actually it is probably not the Geforce.

Which motherboard is this on? Catch me on AIM if you still have problems.

KT7A-RAID. If it wasn't the GeForce, then I don't know what it was. With only the GF4 and no disk drives, the install hangs. With only the G200 and no disk drives, the install works. Once I got past that part, I swapped video cards again, and now I have a working install.

Right, what I meant was, I didn't think there was really anything wrong with the GF4.

I'm sure it was just the combo of KT133A & GF4 w/o updated drivers for either.
