Heh. Well, even though I didn't get one old piece of hardware working (...yet), I got another! A friend at work lent me a floppy drive for my ancient NEC P/75 laptop. Now I can boot it!
A while ago, I toasted the boot sector, and it became a paperweight because my floppy was dead. Now all I have to do is not make the same mistake again. Hopefully, installing GRUB should do the trick.
