Here's something I don't understand: if ASF is meant to be an Active Streaming Format, why can't I play a partial ASF file?

I yoinked the first 5M of Akira from scour to test aviplay's ASF routines, but it will not play it. aviplay detects the video stream, then complains it can't find a data chunk. Perhaps aviplay just wants to read the whole file before playing...

I sorely wish this program was not written in C++ and qt.

For all I can guess, there are two types of ASF, the AVI kind, and the streaming kind. The streaming kind is really crappy, I think. I don't remember.

I have some DivX's you can try out, but they're 50-60 megs or so. The ASFs that I have are over 100 megs a piece (lain eps). ... So blah.

For having used aviplay for several months, I've never tried its ASF playback.. I wonder if it even works..
